A coating line may use a rotating drum, turret, unwinder, rewinder or indexing assembly. The slip ring must match the function of that rotating module. Before comparing products, document what rotates, which side remains stationary and how continuous rotation improves the process. This prevents the electrical specification from being separated from the real mechanical task.
The source configuration is a high-current through-bore slip ring developed for coating equipment. It combines several current levels in one rotary interface and allows continuous 360-degree transmission. It is best treated as an engineering reference rather than a catalogue item that can be copied into every machine.
List every load as a separate circuit group. The recorded configuration contains eight 180 A circuits, sixteen 40 A circuits and ten 10 A circuits. The source also lists a maximum working voltage of 440 V. These values describe the recorded project configuration; the final circuit count, voltage class and conductor sizing must be confirmed on the approved drawing for the new machine.
Rated current and peak current are not interchangeable. A heater, motor or drive can draw a short inrush current that is much higher than its continuous load. Provide the peak value, duration, repetition rate and cooling conditions. The source record mentions a short-duration peak figure, but it should not appear in public copy or a quotation until engineering confirms the complete duty cycle.
State the line voltage, frequency, protective-earth arrangement and isolation requirements. If several voltage classes share the housing, show them as separate groups. This gives the supplier enough information to plan creepage, clearance, insulation and internal routing instead of relying on an ambiguous total-power figure.
The recorded unit has a 50 mm central bore, an outside diameter of approximately 200 mm and a length of approximately 873 mm. These dimensions are useful for preliminary layout, but the released mechanical drawing remains the controlling document. Check shaft clearance, flange location, anti-rotation method, cable-exit direction and access for tools.
The through bore can accommodate a shaft, pipe or other machine element. Do not allocate the full nominal bore to the mating part. Include alignment tolerance, runout, assembly clearance and any protective sleeve in the calculation.
High-current circuits can create electromagnetic noise that affects nearby control wiring. The source configuration records individual shielding for each current group. In a new project, shielding still needs a complete system plan: cable construction, shield termination, grounding points, routing outside the slip ring and the susceptibility of connected equipment all matter.
Avoid an absolute claim such as 'no interference.' Define the signals and loads, then agree on measurable acceptance criteria. A stable result comes from the complete electrical path, not from one component in isolation.
A compact electrical design can still be difficult to maintain if the cables, fasteners or inspection points are blocked. Review the assembly in the machine model. Provide strain relief, respect minimum bend radius and prevent external cable loads from reaching the slip-ring terminals.
The acceptance plan should include drawing review, point-to-point continuity, insulation resistance, dielectric tests where applicable, rotation under representative load and temperature observation. If interference is a concern, test the actual drive, cable and control hardware together. Record baseline values so maintenance teams can compare later inspections with commissioning results.
A useful RFQ includes the circuit schedule, continuous and peak currents, working voltage, rotation speed, duty cycle, available envelope, through-bore requirement, mounting orientation, cable lengths, termination method, ambient conditions and required validation. Also identify which data must appear on the nameplate and which project identifiers must remain private.
For cross-border projects, attach a controlled English drawing and a revision history. This reduces translation ambiguity and helps the equipment builder, slip-ring supplier and electrical contractor review the same configuration.
