How to Specify a 12G-SDI Slip Ring for Rotating Antenna and Imaging Systems

2026-10-12 10:13 JINPAT

A rotating antenna or imaging platform can require video, power and control signals to cross the same mechanical axis. If each function uses a separate rotary component, the assembly becomes larger and cable routing becomes harder to manage. A hybrid slip ring can consolidate these paths, but the project must begin with a complete interface definition.

LPT000-0405-06S-HF01 is a project reference for this type of integration. Its confirmed features include a radial stator-side cable exit, an integrated high-frequency path and support for 12G-SDI transmission. The original application is a radar antenna. The design should still be reviewed against the exact video source, receiver, cable and operating conditions of every new system.

Define the rotating architecture before selecting the slip ring

Start with the mechanical envelope. Record the available diameter and axial length, the shaft arrangement, the mounting surface and the side from which cables must leave the assembly. A radial cable exit can solve a routing constraint when axial space is limited, but it also needs clearance for bend radius and strain relief.

The machine drawing should show the fixed side, rotating side and cable service zones. It should also identify whether the slip ring carries any mechanical load. In normal practice, bearings and structural supports should manage the rotating assembly while the slip ring provides the electrical interface.

Build a channel list that separates video from auxiliary circuits

List every circuit by function rather than grouping them under a general label such as signal. The schedule should distinguish the 12G-SDI path, power circuits, control I/O, sensor circuits, grounding and spare capacity. Include voltage, current, cable type, connector, shielding and termination requirements for each path.

This separation gives the supplier the information needed to plan internal spacing and reduce coupling between high-frequency transmission and power circuits. It also makes commissioning easier because each connection has a defined source and destination.

Treat the complete 12G-SDI link as one system

Video performance depends on the complete path. The source output, fixed cable, rotary interface, rotating cable, connectors and receiver all contribute loss and reflections. A statement that a slip ring can transmit 12G-SDI should therefore be matched to a defined cable assembly and test method.

Before approval, agree on the required validation signal, cable lengths and acceptance criteria. Avoid assuming that a result obtained with one cable or connector configuration automatically applies to another. If the system uses adapters or patch panels, include them in the validation setup.

Plan grounding and cable routing early

High-frequency video and power can share one mechanical housing only when the electrical layout is coordinated. Define the grounding concept, shield termination and separation between cable groups. Keep motor drives, switching power cables and other noise sources away from the video route where the machine layout allows.

During installation, protect the cable from sharp bends, unsupported weight and repeated flexing outside its specified region. A compact slip ring does not remove the need for proper cable management on both sides of the rotating interface.

Information to send with a quotation request

Provide an outline drawing, channel schedule, 12G-SDI source and receiver information, cable lengths, connector requirements, rotation profile, environment and service expectations. State which requirements are fixed and which can be adjusted. This allows suppliers to review the complete interface instead of quoting from the model name alone.

LPT000-0405-06S-HF01 is most useful as an engineering reference for integrated rotary video transmission. Final circuit quantities, current ratings and operating limits should be confirmed on the approved drawing before production or publication.
