Filling and packaging machines often rotate a carousel, valve block, capping head, inspection station or product-handling turret. The first specification question is therefore not the slip-ring model. It is what must pass between the stationary frame and the rotating assembly while production continues. List the electrical loads, control signals and pneumatic functions connected to that rotating section.
The recorded reference product combines an electrical slip ring with a pneumatic rotary joint for filling equipment. Its source row lists continuous 360-degree transfer, an IP65 design target, compressed air up to 10 bar and electrical circuits operating up to 400 V. These values describe one approved project configuration and must be checked before reuse in another machine.
A single housing does not mean one undifferentiated requirement. Create two linked schedules. The electrical schedule should show every power and signal circuit. The pneumatic schedule should show the medium, pressure, flow, temperature, cleanliness and connection size. The schedules then share the same rotation speed, duty cycle, mounting envelope and environmental conditions.
For each circuit, state voltage, continuous current, peak current, load type and switching behavior. Identify protective earth, shields and any sensitive encoder, sensor or communication paths. The source configuration is listed for power circuits up to 400 V, but insulation coordination still depends on the complete machine, applicable standard, altitude, contamination and terminal arrangement.
Specify whether the medium is dry compressed air or another approved gas. Give normal pressure, maximum pressure, expected flow, allowable pressure drop and leakage limit. A public statement such as '10 bar capable' is incomplete unless the exact configuration, fittings, medium and test method are known. If the line handles product or cleaning fluids, do not assume the air passage is suitable for direct food contact.
Filling areas may contain dust, splashes, cleaning mist or condensation. Define where the slip ring sits and how the area is cleaned. The source row records IP65 for the reference assembly, but an IP rating must be tied to the tested product, mounting and connector condition. It does not automatically establish resistance to every detergent, high-pressure washdown method or corrosive atmosphere.
Also state ambient temperature, humidity, startup conditions and expected exposure to chemicals. If flammable vapors can occur, the machine needs a separate hazardous-area assessment. The available source information does not establish explosion protection.
Provide a controlled interface drawing with the mounting surface, rotation axis, available diameter and length, anti-rotation method, hose direction and cable exit. Leave room for minimum cable bend radius, pneumatic fittings and tools. Protect the stationary side from external torque and prevent hoses from loading the bearings or electrical connections.
Service access matters on a production line. The assembly should be replaceable without dismantling unrelated machine modules. Mark every circuit and air port consistently on the drawing, component and maintenance record.
A useful acceptance plan checks dimensions, circuit continuity, insulation resistance, dielectric performance where applicable and rotation under representative load. The pneumatic checks should include pressure hold, leakage and pressure drop using an agreed method. Environmental claims require the relevant documented test rather than a visual judgement.
Run a system-level test with the actual valves, drives, sensors, cables and hoses. Observe voltage stability, signal behavior, temperature, air pressure and leakage during rotation. Record baseline values so the maintenance team can compare later inspections with commissioning data.
Include the electrical schedule, pneumatic schedule, rotation speed, duty cycle, environment, interface drawing, cable and hose lengths, connector preferences, inspection requirements and document language. Ask suppliers to return a compliance table that marks every line as confirmed, deviated or pending.
For cross-border projects, use one revision-controlled English drawing and define which identifiers must remain confidential. This avoids copying an internal customer code into public documentation and reduces the risk of installing a configuration that only looks similar.
