Designing Automated Equipment Around a Contactless Rotary Interface

2026-09-24 16:56 JINPAT

A rotating assembly can be mechanically compact yet difficult to integrate electrically. Designers need to connect stationary controls with rotating components while accommodating the available space, movement and service access.

JINPAT is preparing to introduce a self-developed wireless slip ring based on non-contact transmission. For automation equipment designers, the upcoming product creates an opportunity to review how the rotary transmission interface fits into the machine as a whole.

Start with the Movement and the Information

Before selecting a rotary interface, define what moves and what needs to pass between the stationary and rotating sides.

An indexing mechanism, a positioning unit and a continuously rotating instrument may have different communication requirements. The useful starting point is therefore a list of signals, interfaces and operating conditions—not simply the number of wires currently installed.

For compact equipment, the space around the rotating axis also matters. Mounting positions, nearby metal structures and access for assembly should be considered early in the design.

Where a Contactless Interface May Be Worth Evaluating

Potential evaluation areas include automated positioning assemblies, precision instruments and rotating modules in intelligent equipment.

These are application directions rather than confirmed compatibility claims. Each project still needs to establish whether the product’s final communication specifications and mechanical arrangement meet its requirements.

JINPAT describes the upcoming wireless slip ring as compact and modular. Its suitability for a particular machine will depend on the released dimensions, mounting details and supported interfaces.

Plan Power and Communication Separately

“Wireless” should not be taken to mean that every electrical connection disappears.

The currently available announcement describes non-contact transmission but does not establish wireless power capability. Designers should therefore identify the rotating assembly’s power requirements separately and confirm the proposed power arrangement with JINPAT.

Prepare for a Practical Design Review

A useful enquiry includes the equipment layout, required interfaces, movement profile, installation space and environmental conditions. Providing these together helps establish whether a contactless rotary interface is appropriate and what further validation is needed.
